Metaphorical dimension of idioms in TV series for German, Norwegian and Spanish audiences

Over recent years, internet TV series have grown in popularity to become one of the audiovisual products with highest audiences worldwide. The Covid crisis, limitations on movement, has further increased their success during 2020-21. English is by far most common language for such productions, which are typically offered non-anglophone viewers translated format, either subtitles or dubbing. One main challenges translation here concerns use idioms, since these do not always a fixed equivalent target language. Taking as starting point corpus drama from Netflix and Amazon Prime, this study considers metaphorical dimension idioms original subtitling German, Norwegian Spanish. aim analyze strategies used process, look at differences between dialogues subtitles. data described cognitive contrastive perspective, according methodology developed author. results analysis show general trend towards reduction expressions Significant found translations into three languages under examination.
